Ugborhen Holds Cultural and Sport Carnival to Celebrate Christmas

Residents of Ugborhen community in Sapele Local Government Area in Delta State has celebrated the annual Ugborhen Amua Cultural and Sports festival to draw the year to a close on Sunday December 12th, 2021.

The event which was organise to foster unity and oneness amongst indigenes of the town under the Community president, Dr Nelson Ukoko aka Djenepo started on the 11th of December with a football competition between the four quarters that made up the town.

The four quarters are Okuoghara Okuokpogho, Okwikorro, and, Udumugbako, however Okuoghara emerged winner of the Ugborhen champions cup by defeating Udumugbako by 2 goals to 1 while other activities like tug of war between two group of women brought uproar and jubilation to the carnival.

After the on field display, the community then moved to the community Hall where each quarter engaged in Cultural dance to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Ugborhen people and why they are so reverred in Okpe kingdom.

Trophies were then presented to winners of each competition, with Okuokpogho women emerging the dance champions.

Dignitaries who stormed the event praise the Dr Nelson Ukoko led administration for organising a unity event, advising the Ugborhen people to always strive for peace.

Dr Samuel Iyeni, urged the people to always support the administration adding that it is obvious the administration will go places and turn the fortunes of Ugborhen around.

The former Interim Chairman of the community, Mr Philip Mebradu who also spoke to the press, said the event was significant to all to show that the new administration is now running on purpose and to show love advising that the community must continue to show love.

Dr Stephen Umukoro, who said he was happy with the development, urge members of the community to continue to support the Dr Nelson Ukoko administration, adding that his initial support was borne out of trust for the administration.

Dr Nelson Ukoko who also spoke to newsmen said he would continue to strive towards the community development "I want to make everything about Ugborhen work, honestly  if I go today I won't take anything from here, my first love is here, that is why I will continue to give my best" he said.

Others who attended the event include former Commissioner in the then Bendel State, Mrs Margaret Unukegwho, Mr Abebe, and a host of others
