BIOGRAPHY OF LATE CHIEF JOHNSON IGHOMENA A. EWGHATORE, USIAVWIERIGHO OF OGHARA KINGDOM
In the ancient city of Egbo Oghareki fringes of the great Oghara town situated at Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria was born a man of extra ordinary talent, brilliant, intelligent, smart, industrious custodian of the Africa tradition and promoter of unity, peace, an advocate for growth and development. A gifted pragmatic, ausidious and audacious engineer - Chief Johnson Ighomena A. Ewghatore.
USIAVWIERIGHO OF OGHARA KINGDOM, Late Chief Johnson Ighomena A. Ewghatore, was born on March 21st, 1904 into the family of late Chief Ewghatore Ajaroka of Egbo Oghareki in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Late Chief Johnson Ighomena A. Ewghatore had his early education at L. A . Primary School Oghareki from 1916 - 1924 where he obtained a standard six certificate.
He started his working career as a Supervisor in the then JOHN HOLT Group of Company (U.A.C.) Sapele. A dedicated and devoted staff, he was able to maintain his position as Supervisor in the company for twelve years before retiring home.
Not a man who would lie low, he began to develop himself through his multi talent skills in vocational jobs like carpentry, engineering, tailoring, building construction, and construction of machine for various purposes.
Apart from his gifted skill in engineering, late Chief Johnson Ighomena A. Ewghatore was also a predominant farmer who was involved in both subsistence and commercial farming in a way of providing for both his immediate family and community folks.
A great Mathematician and English teacher, the Late Chief Johnson Ighomena A. Ewghatore impacted his knowledge in the two subjects on his offsprings.
Late Chief Johnson A. Ewghatore was known for his usual question and answer style in doling out information and inculcating knowledge in his children that were willing to learn.
A disciplinarian, he believed in sparing the rod and spoiling the child as he did not spare the whip in making any child that was found wanting in behavior, "as he would often say; I will make you a scapegoat, you koon".
A jovial man, he was noted for his jokes and his unique talent of constructing machines for various purpose. A man of peace, integrity and truth, he stood up for what was right, irrespective of whose ox is gored.
Late Chief Johnson Ighomena A. Ewghatore was a custodian of the tradition and in recognition of his drive, passion, intelligence, devotion to the affairs of Oghara Kingdom, he was conferred with the Chieftaincy title of "USIAVWIERIGHO" which literally means "The key of money". He became a second class Chief in the year 1982 were he held the position of Otota and later rose to the position of High Chief in the year 1985 for his uprightness, humility, devotion and dedication to the growth and development of Oghara Kingdom.
In 2015, he became the oldest man in Oghareki and was called to the "Ancestors Chamber of thought" were he presided over the traditional affairs of the ogue-dion as the Okaoro (Ekpe) of Oghareki, a position he held until his death.
As a custodian of the tradition, he selflessly fought against oppression and ensured that everyone got justice.
His reign brought peace, tranquility, development and growth in Oghareki as he was able to use his office to restore back the tradition of the people.
Late Chief Johnson Ighomena A. Ewghatore left us to our earthly lives on the morning of 19th June, 2021 leaving behind his two wives, Mrs Bright Omadi Johnson Ighomena, Mrs Helen Johnson Ighomena, fourteen children, several grand, great grand and great great grand children.
