Why I presented a car to the eldest man in Ugborhen Community - Ukoko

By Stephanie Ikanone Odiete

The president of oil rich Ugborhen Community in Delta State Dr Nelson Ukoko on Saturday October 23rd, 2021 has given reasons why the community bought a car for the office of the eldest man (Okpako Amua) in the community.

Ukoko, who was overwhelmingly sworn in last year to help pilot the affairs of the community said he was touched to see the eldest man boarding a motorcycle when he was campaigning for the position, in his words; "I told myself I was going to buy a car for him if I eventually emerge the president"

While thanking the State governor Senator Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, Chairman of Sapele Local Government Council, Hon Eugene Inoaghan and the Orodje of Okpe for their support, Ukoko said their were other projects he would not want to disclose, emphasizing that he believes in action not words.

"I am here for development and empowerment and I must tell you that other things will still follow, I have the support of everyone and we are just beginning to see new things" he said. He however explained that the car is not the Community eldest man's property "we bought it for that office and when another person emerges as the eldest, the car will continue to serve that purpose"

The Secretary General of the community, Alfred Aboloje while congratulating the Okpako Amua (Eldest man) said the community was determined to bring development to the village so as to live up to its status as the oil rich Community, saying buying a car for the eldest man was only a step in the right direction.

The senior leader of the community, Dr Umukoro Stephen who could not curtail his joy said he was glad that the Community excos were living up to expectations "we want to thank them for the wonderful job they are doing and God will continue to guide them" adding that they are expecting other areas of development.

Mrs Aghogho, an indigene of Ugborhen Community while speaking to pressmen also congratulated the eldest man "I am very happy to witness this, I must thank Dr Nelson Ukoko for this new development and this move, God will continue to protect him for us" she said smiling.

Meanwhile Pa Jacob Ekpekpe, the eldest man in the community while accepting the car today, said he was not surprise at what was currently happening in the community, insisting that he had always known that the Community will grow from strength to strength in all spheres of development "I was optimistic we were doing the right thing when we elected him, today he has proven me right" this kind gesture has never happened before, this is the first time that a president is thinking of the welfare of the oldest man and I glad that it is happening in my time, I pray that God will use Dr Nelson Ukoko to do more for the community he added.
