DAVID EDEVBIE: THE GOVERNOR THAT DELTANS NEED

By February, 2023, the electorates in Delta State will go to the polls to elect a governor that would steer the affairs of the State for a period of four years.

Anticipatorily, Deltans will be expected to make an informed choice  amongst the candidates that will be vying for the number one position in the state.

Perhaps among the qualities Deltans will be looking forward in arriving at their choice of candidate will include competence, experience, intellectual capacity and the antecedents of the candidates.

However, among those who have indicated interest in the number one seat of the state under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief David Edevbie obviously towers higher above the other candidates in terms of experience, managerial ability and visionary leadership.

Chief David Edevbie is comprehensively educated and has extensive working experience both in Nigeria and overseas.

Chief David Edevbie has over the years acquired competence and working experience that have established him as an asset to the people and organisations he has worked with.

Little wonder, at Chief James Ibori assumption of duty as the Executive Governor of Delta State in 1999, he appointed Chief David Edevbie as Delta State Commissioner for Finance, and Economic planning.

 Arising from his Sterling performance in the judicious management of Delta State finances  between 1999- 2003, he was reappointed Commissioner for Finance by Chief James Ibori during his second term, and once again demonstrating his professional acumen in administering the Delta State finances.

It was therefore not surprising when he was appointed Principal Secretary to President Musa Yar'Adua in 2008, a position that was equivalent to the office of Chief of Staff to the President.

As Principal Secretary to President Musa Yar'Adua he was practically in charge of the day-to-day running of the Presidency.

Many will agree that the tangible successes recorded by President Musa Yar'Adua administration have the input of Chief David Edevbie, who effectively stood in for the President during the period of his health challenges.

Chief Edevbie foray into the financial world include his stint in Backlays Bank as Assistant Bank Manager between 1989 - 1990, Assistant Manager Corporate lending, 1999.

Apart from his stint at Barclays Bank where he worked with some of the best technocrats in the world and garnered sufficient experience and indeed widened his horizon on best practices in the management of human and financial resources, Chief Edevbie has also worked with other renowned world financial institutions where he proved himself a veritable asset.

A people's delight any day any time. The immediate past Delta State Chief of Staff has worked with Chief James Onanefe Ibori, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa and has made simultaneous progress possible in all major sectors – in line with the present administration of  Prosperity for all Deltan through the Smart agenda policy.

Joining the Ibori administration as Commissioner for Finance and Economic planning in 1999, Edevbie brought to bear fiscal discipline in administering of the state finances thereby adding value to governance and the overall wellbeing of Deltans.

Chief David Edevbie is a workaholic and an acknowledged team player--an attribute that has endeared him to those who have worked closely with him.

He is a responsible family man, married with children and he is a deserving recipient of several awards across the world; and belongs to a number of professional and charitable organisations, which promotes the welfare of humankind.

Chief David Edevbie is evidently the best choice for his political party. An opinion poll conducted recently by independent body revealed that he is the most preferred choice of the people, as he has the charismatic intelligence and what it takes to transform Delta State to a model state 

 As Governor of Delta State, Chief David Edevbie will certainly bring to bear, his knowledge, experience, prudence and integrity in conducting the affairs of the state.

 He has a clear, realistic and feasible agenda for the development and modernization of Delta State.

A champion and a visionary, David Edevbie is not our ‘typical’ self-seeking politician. Indeed, he has staked his name and reputation to be held accountable for  delivery of his campaign promises when elected. 

On the contrary, some other candidates believe that campaigns are about running from pillar to post in grandiloquence,but Edevbie is totally different.

As a long-standing technocrat, Edevbie has made meaningful contribution to the socio-economic transformation of  several societies and nations.

 Perhaps, if given the opportunity to serve, Chief David Edevbie will bring his wealth of experience to bear in moving the state forward and taking her rightful place in the affairs of things in the country.

The people of Delta State are enlightened and discerning, they would certainly be happy to have person of the caliber of Chief David Edevbie to consolidate on Senator Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa achievements.
